More On Prioritizing Exterior Remodeling Projects for Your Twin Cities Home

We find that at this time of the year many homeowners around the Twin Cities are starting to make to-do lists regarding things that need to be done to the exterior of their homes. Chances are you’ve got a list like that and you added items to it when you tackled outside maintenance chores this fall.  So if you have more than one thing on your list, how do you decide which exterior remodeling project should come first?

When many different projects need to be done on the exterior of the home, or even the interior along with it, it is important to prioritize the work and not just go after them at random.  One popular way many people use is to put home remodeling ideas in order of cost. This is helpful because you know what you can fit into your budget.

Choosing to Do Exterior Remodeling or Home Improvement Projects by Budget

Whatever you need to get done, of course it’s going to take money to do it, whether you have cash saved up or you need to finance the work.  Here is some basic information on the various types of exterior home remodeling and what it can cost.

Replacement Windows: The price for replacement windows varies extensively.  What it will cost depends on how many windows you need as well as the type of windows you choose.. You can pay as much as $1,200 for one double-hung window to be installed in a home, so it is important to consider the type of window. An average project will run around $7,000. But we’re used to helping people work within their budgets, so we have some suggestions for keeping the cost down. Plus we often run installation specials, so if you schedule your job when we’ve got a discount offer available, you’ll save.

Entry Doors: Replacing an exterior entry door is about the least expensive project. The price depends on what material you choose to go with and the options you select. It can cost as much as $2,000 to have one installed. But again, we often have online discounts available for door installation as well.  And since we offer a variety of door brands, we can help you select one that will fit in your budget.

Roofing: Roofing can be costly, but it is something that does pay off over time, which makes it a great investment. It can cost up towards $10,000 to re-roof a home. This is dependent on the type of roofing, as well as the size of the home and whether or not you need to have the old roof torn off first.  But if your roof is in bad shape, this project should probably go to the top of your list, since it is the major protection for your home.  If you’re concerned about affording the cost, you may want to investigate whether a roof repair might help extend its life.

Siding:  There are many costs that come with siding a home. Usually when people have their siding replaced, they also get new trim. It can cost up towards $14,000, depending on the type of siding and quality you choose to go with.  We offer several different siding materials and we can help you select something that will fit in your budget.
