Why Minneapolis Homeowners Should Consider Entry Doors with Decorative Glass

If you’re shopping for entry doors for your Minneapolis home, you have a lot of options to decide on.  One of those options is glass.  But then there are more questions once you’ve decided that yes, you want some glass in that door.

  • Full glass or partial?
  • Type of glass – transparent, translucent, obscuring, or decorative?

Unless your door is surrounded by other glass that will let light into your entryway (such as transom windows above, sidelights along the side), we highly suggest you consider at least partial glass in your entry door.  We find when we work with our customers that full glass is least preferred, mainly because of the privacy issue.  But we have some suggestions to create privacy while still letting light in.

And that’s where some sort of art glass comes into play.  Several of our door manufacturers such as ProVia offer various types of obscuring glass (semi-transparent glass with patterns in it), as well as decorative glass.Shown here is an example of one of the privacy glass options from Marvin.  This particular pattern is called ‘Rain.’

Patterned glass gives privacy (even if someone is standing right in front of the door) while letting in light.  And being able to have light without sacrificing privacy is a great benefit to choosing a glass option like this.

Here’s another look – this one from ProVia.  The ‘Laurence’ glass option is shown here, with coordinating obscuring glass on both sidelights and the fixed glass window above the cherry finish ‘Embarq’ fiberglass entry door.  The door glass pattern creates the look of stained glass.  In addition to providing privacy but still letting light in is just one reason to consider a decorative glass option for your next entry door.  But we think the unique appearance is the best reason of all.  You can select a glass package that complements the look of your home and reflects your personal taste, while creating a look that’s one-of-a-kind.

Real estate professionals will tell you if your budget is limited and you’re looking for a great return on your investment, a new front door is one of your best ways to do that.  Especially if you choose a low-maintenance, energy-efficient fiberglass or steel door.  We’ve got lots of beautiful options on display at our replacement window and exterior door showroom in Savage.  Why not make an appointment today?  We’re very proud to be authorized installers of Marvin products as well as ProVia for the greater Minneapolis area.
