3 Easy Ways to Improve the Appearance of the Exterior of Your Home without Spending a Bundle

Does the outside of your home say what you want it to say?

A lot of homeowners believe that a guest gets their first impression of your home as you usher them into their living room. This is not the truth; any guest that comes to your home will form their initial opinion as soon as they get out of their car. The first thing they see is your front yard and porch. While your living room may be quite charming with its warm fireplace and bay window, nothing will completely replace that first impression as they set their feet down on your front sidewalk.

So go outside your home, stand at the curb, and take a good look at your home.

Does your yard look cluttered with such things as gardening tools or even those very intrusive weeds nobody likes? Does it look like the railing on your front porch may need a fresh coat of paint? Whatever may be cluttering up and making your front yard seem less attractive but also makes you look bad as well.

Here are three brilliant low-cost ways that you will be able to improve the appearance of the exterior of your home:

Organization Is the Key – Creating an Organized, Inviting Space

It is your front yard and your porch that will set you apart from everyone else on the block. These are the parts of your property that guests see and that forms their initial opinion the first time they come to your home. And if it looks that way every time they stop by, that will only reinforce their impression of your home.

Start by cleaning:  clean up, pick up and put away out of sight any gardening tools or other miscellaneous objects that may be cluttering up your lawn and porch.

(These next items are for after the snow is gone, so bookmark this post for spring.) Mow the lawn.  Is your lawn over grown? Do you have an over growth of weeds?  Sometimes all it takes is a good mowing to put your yard back into shape.

Now spruce it up a little by adding some color. Purchase some potted plants and place them strategically around your walkway as well as adding some hanging plants to your front porch. This will add lovely color to your landscaping as well as creating a focus point to your yard.  You can do the same in the winter with containers filled with evergreens, pine cones, and seasonal decor.

Put a Fresh Coat of Paint On Your Front Door

As you inspect the exterior of your home you may find that only certain things look worn and could use a fresh coat of paint. Areas that are most likely in need of a fresh coat are fences, porches, and even your doors. By adding a fresh coat of paint to these areas will redefine focus points as well as evoking a fresh new color scheme.  If your front door is in really bad shape, you may consider replacing it.  But if it still looks good, repainting it in a vibrant color could bring life to your front entry.

Replace Those Windows

Have you noticed that your windows just do not sparkle like they used to? Do they look worn out? Are the window frames dull in color or even warped and rotting?  Upgrading by installing replacement windows will enhance the appearance of the exterior of your home, but those new windows will also enhance the appearance of the interior as well.

Taking full advantage of the curb appeal of your home does not need to cost you a lot of money; it just takes the time to make some very small changes that will often make a very huge difference in the appearance of your home.
