When most people think of a window, they picture the traditional double-hung. But there are many other window styles, and some might be more appropriate for your home than a double hung. One we’d like to discuss in this post is the casement window.
Casement windows tend to be oddballs in the window industry and do not get the well-deserved respect they earned. Here are four excellent things for which this respect is called for:
Casements allow for a fully opened window
No other window is capable of opening as far. The entire window is swung open when a casement is used.
Compared to:
When shopping for windows, if size opening is important you might want to put casement windows on your list for consideration. However, if you have small children these might not be a great choice.
Side breezes are caught with casement windows
If, by a trick of nature, breezes travel along your house at an angle that is acute, it is a challenge to get any type of air to move throughout your house with the majority of widows.
Casements have an open sash that acts as a flap to direct breezes into your home. This helps ensure air is brought in to move throughout your home.
Casesment windows have few muntins
Muntins are strips of vinyl, metal, fiberglass, or wood that hold and separate panes of glass in a window. There are times when muntins are wanted and at other times they are not. Sometimes they are wanted so much that two panes of glass have fake muntins installed. Choose casements if you do not like muntins. With dual-sash casement windows, there is only one strip that is placed between the two sashes. You will have no muntins if you have single-sash casements.
