Are You Confused About Single, Double, and Triple Pane Windows?

Are all the terms floating around about window panes giving you a pain?

If you are looking for a fresh new look for your home and are considering replacing your windows the issue of how many panes to have could be a nightmare.

There are many different types of windows as well as many things that need to be taken into consideration: Double or triple paned, UV ratings, R-values, vinyl or wood, thermal efficiency, double hung or casement, replacing them yourself or hiring a professional.

Are you confused yet?  Learning all the different issues with window replacement can take some time as well as effort to learn. That’s why we have done the research for you, and we’re sharing some basic information on single, double, or triple-pane windows.

Do you know the difference between, double, and triple pane windows?

  • Single pane windows are just that – one single panel of glass.
  • Double pane windows are called double pane because they have two panels of glass separated by a layer of air or gas.
  • Triple-pane windows are basically the same as double pane, the difference being that they have three panels of glass instead of two.

All other things being the same, triple-pane windows are always going to be the most energy-efficient, although this option will cost more up front.

Keep in mind that well-made double and triple pane windows are extremely energy efficient, with great sound barrier protection, as well as resilience benefits.

For a little more technical explanation of the difference between the two, watch this informative video.

So what type of window is best for your home?

We will never advise a homeowner to purchase single pane windows any longer, due to the fact that are just not as durable or as well insulated as a double or triple pane window.

As for triple pane windows we do not generally recommend these either; although in some applications they are preferable.  For instance, if you’ve got a northern exposure that gets a strong wind.  For the most part, you can get close to the same results from a double pane window for lower cost. You can see why we usually recommend a double pane window over the other two types to our customers.

With double pane windows you are getting the best of both worlds: they are energy efficient as well as being cost friendly.

We do not just recommend any type of double pane window.  We have carefully selected a number of manufacturers to work with whom we believe produce the best quality windows for the price.  All the window companies we work with offer energy-efficient, beautiful windows in many styles.  And whether you’re in the market for genuine wood, wood clad, vinyl, or fiberglass, we can help you choose.

Our window installation professionals are masters at their craft. They have the know-how of installing windows in homes of all sizes, shapes, as well as styles, and we are so self-assured in our ability to supply you with an inconceivable installation experience that we offer a limited warranty on all our work.

So, think before you spend all that money on triple-paned windows, compare them with double-paned units in terms of efficiency, sound barrier control and cost. Speak with us here at Window Outfitters to find out which would be the best windows for the home that you own.
