Are Those Bargain Window Replacement Offers Worth It?

Replacing your windows is a great idea when you hear an ad for windows stating that they only cost $180 per replacement window with installation included, but what are you really going to pay when all is said and done? Typically, you would think that the cost would be window + installation = final cost. But how much does that window actually cost in comparison to the installation?

06jun10b1a15Some Minneapolis area replacement window companies design these ads to catch your attention because they seem like great deals, but they often do not tell you how much the window actually costs. While $180 for a window plus installation sounds like a dream deal, you might be stuck with the lowest quality window the company sells.

A lot of different factors are considered when determining a window cost and installation. These include size, color and material of the interior and exterior, types of glass in the window, hardware finishes, how difficult it is to remove the existing windows, if any extra materials are needed to install the new windows, and the style of window. For example, bay windows will cost more than a double hung window would.

So before being duped into spending more money than you planned to (after all, the ad said $180) ask the company selling these windows what kind of window the ad is for, how is it being installed, what warranty is included with the installation of the windows, and what kind of glass comes in that window. With these specifics you’ll be better prepared to determine whether that ‘deal’ is a good one or if it’s a offer you should pass up.  Generally speaking, when you’re replacing your windows, this is not an area you want try to cut costs. Bargain windows usually end up to be a poor value because they don’t insulate well and don’t last long.  You’ll just end up replacing them in a short time with better quality, more expensive windows (which would have been the best solution in the first place).

When you’re ready to replace the windows in your home there are some important things that you will need to decide on before starting shopping. Besides the look of the window, some of the things you will want to make sure the windows you are looking to purchase will keep your home cool in the summer and keep in warmth in the winter, reduce outside noise, have long-lasting durability, and come with a warranty.  Also make sure that the window contractor offers a workmanship warranty or guarantee as well, because often replacement window guarantees only cover defects in the window itself and not the installation.

Spend some time doing research on what you need exactly and you are likely to save money at the end of the day. Of course, what you get depends on what your budget is for replacement windows.  At our Savage area showroom we’ve got  samples from many of the window companies we work with so you can see for yourself what’s available.  And we’ll work with you to help you choose the best windows for your home, your needs, and your price range.
