Bathroom Window Ideas When You Need Privacy

There are two main things we look to windows to provide:  light and air.  Of course, showing off a good view goes along with light.  The right window solution for any room is one that maximizes those elements.  But when you’re dealing with a bathroom, there is another thing keep in mind, and that’s privacy. So bathroom windows need to provide light and air without letting the outside world see what it shouldn’t.  That can be a challenge, but often thinking outside the box can create just what you need.

Like the open kitchen that is light-filled and spacious, the open bathroom floor plan is very popular.  You’ve probably seen those gorgeous photos of large free-standing tubs and in huge bathrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows.  Most of us don’t have homes in secluded mountaintop areas, and for Minneapolis homeowners those designs are not likely an option.  But we do have some suggestions for bathroom windows that can give you lots of light without sacrificing privacy.  Check out this photo below, courtesy of our friends at Weather Shield Windows & Doors:

In this particular bathroom, ventilation wasn’t an issue so the homeowners opted for fixed upper windows (sometimes called transoms).  The windows wrap around on two sides and are mulled (joined together) at the corner, creating the maximum amount of light possible without giving someone a view into the bathroom interior.  Of course, this option is only workable if you have no neighbors with a taller home, whose windows might provide a view downward.  Keep the layout of your neighbors’ homes in mind when creating window solutions for privacy!

A variation on this that has slider or awning windows operated with an extension pole would also work.

Other bathroom window solutions for privacy include:

  • Windows that have obscuring or art glass
  • Windows with built-in blinds

Whatever room of your house – bathroom or otherwise – we’re confident we can help you find the perfect window solution.  Arrange to have a private consultation at our Savage window and door showroom or a no-obligation quote in your home.  We are a licensed Minnesota home remodeling company serving the greater Minneapolis metro area.  Our specialty is energy-efficient replacement windows and exterior doors.
