Beware of Any Storm Chasers That Come Knocking

Severe weather like we had recently in the Minneapolis area brings all kinds of hazards – flooding, downed trees, power failures, roof damage, and storm chasers.

05may08e5a14Storm chasers are those home repair “professionals” that come knocking on doors of homes that might look like they need a little help. Usually they’re out and about before the rain has even dried off the streets.  Whether it is the siding, roofing or outdoor work that needs to be done, they might tell you that it is something they know how to do and are professionals in, only to find out that they are not or they just want your money.

Don’t fall victim to these people that claim they are a professional storm damage company.  Only trust in the ones that you give a call to yourself.

Why You Shouldn’t Hire These Storm Chasers

It should go without saying that these are people you probably shouldn’t trust to come in and work on your home.  But they’ve got a persuasive line – they’re giving discounts because they’re working on other homes in the area, their prices are some of the best out there, and they’ve got discounts on materials, and more.

If you’ve got storm damage to your home that needs repair fast but you’re trying to save money, you might think it’s worth it to go with them over other professional home repair contractors who might charge a bit more.

This is not the case.

There have been people that work with these shady operators, giving them most (if not all) of the money up front, only to have the person never come back again. To make matters worse, they did not have any form of ID or information on the people and they didn’t have a contract. This meant the storm chaser was free and clear to take the money and run.  If you think this couldn’t happen, just check with the local Better Business Bureau or the police department and you’ll find out just how many complaints they’ve gotten recently.

Even if they follow through and actually do the repair work, you might find that a lot of what they’ve done (if any) is not covered under warranty or your insurance. It might also be done wrong, leaving you with poorly done siding, roofing or other exterior problems which turn into more expensive, larger problems that need to be fixed later on down the road.  You may find your warranty on your roof or other building materials has been voided because the work was done by a company who wasn’t certified by the manufacturer or wasn’t licensed.  Always check your warranty before you have anyone work on your home.

This is why you should hire an experienced Minnesota exterior home remodeling contractor who is experienced in storm damage repair.
