Cut Down Drafts with Casement Windows From This Minneapolis Area Contractor

Among the many considerations in choosing replacement windows are the issues of energy efficiency and draft resistance.  No matter how beautiful the window, or how good the price, if your new windows don’t cut energy costs and keep out drafts, you may be trading one problem for another.  The solution?  That depends on many things.  The right windows for one home may be wrong for another.  That’s why Window Outfitters, Inc., offers free consultations.  Their recommendations will be based on your home, your lifestyle, your reasons for replacing your new windows, and your personal preferences.

If the first thing on your mind is eliminating the drafts in your rooms, casement windows just might be the right choice for you.  Only fixed windows (those which don’t open, like picture windows) keep out drafts better.   Casement windows are available in most lines we carry.  You can choose a variety of materials and finishes, and they can be custom-manufactured if you have nonstandard window openings.

Casement windows have many advantages, among them:

  • Improved ventilation – the entire window lets in air, as opposed to single- or double-hung windows, which allow ventilation from only half the window
  • Fire safety – since the entire window pivots out, it provides an easier opening to crawl through
  • Convenience – single- and double- hung windows usually require two hands to lift the sash; casement window cranks allow for one-handed operation
  • Energy-efficiency – since casement windows move in and out, their sashes fight snugly against the frame, forming a tighter seal than windows which are raised and lowered (which often results in a slight gap where the two sashes meet)
  • Lower maintenance – casement window mechanisms are very simple in comparison to single- and double-hung windows; an annual oiling of the hinges and crank mechanism should be sufficient to keep your windows moving easily for years to come
  • Ease of cleaning – most casement windows manufactured today have sashes that pop out easily, which permits cleaning the whole glass surface from the interior of your home – no more ladders outside on uneven ground!

Window Outfitters has a wide selection of casement windows to choose from, including beautiful  options from Pella, Owens Corning, and Unlimited Vinyl.  Contact us today to see what window solution is right for you.
