Choose the Right Window Style for Your Minneapolis MN Home

If it’s time to replace the old windows at your house, the best advice we can offer is to do your homework first.  Check out the options available, and then evaluate a variety of window styles to determine which window style will complement your home’s style best.  Choosing the right window style for a home does make a difference.

When it comes to the right windows, they can offer so much more than just a view outside or to let sunlight and air in when it is needed. Windows can actually make the overall appearance of your home that much better. When you choose windows appropriate for your home’s architecture, you can express your unique style and also protect the inside of your home from any storms or harsh weather that hits the area. There are so many different styles to choose from, that you need to make sure that you’re choosing the right ones for your home.

Here are some tips to make sure you choose the right style of window for the home that you have.

• Take a look at the architecture and look of your home from the outside before going out and ‘window shopping.’ You want to find homes that have the similar look as yours and then find out which windows look the best in them.  Maybe these homes have different windows – do you like the style or not?
• When you have different styles in mind, you have to find out how the windows are able to function when you put them in. Some of them will slide open, lift up and out, swing around or drop down. Other window styles are for light only and are inoperable (they don’t open).  You need to find out how you feel about using each of these types of windows – which type do you feel most comfortable using?  And if you’re remodeling your home with a view to remaining in it as you age, keep in mind that certain styles of windows are easier to open than others.  Also, do you feel safer using one over another?
• Think about the window glass area.  Some windows are just solid glass, while others have grids (these windows are called ‘divided light’).  If you want to look out the window without having something block your view, then you might consider the plain glass.  But if you prefer the charm of a traditional look, divided light windows might be what you’re looking for.  For instance, in the photo above, both the window in the center and the oval window on the right are divided light windows, while the glass in the double doors has no grid.
