Choosing the Best Outdoor Color Scheme for Your Home

The satisfaction you can get by creating a welcoming environment through the outside appearance of your home is something that shouldn’t be underestimated.  Not only that, but with the right siding, you’re able to boost the curb appeal of your home as well as its value.

When you select new siding, having the right color combination is something you should take into account. However, you have to consider many factors that come into play when choosing the right color siding for your house. You have to consider your personal preferences, the architectural style of your home, and what coordinates with the rest of your neighborhood (or what will stand out).

Tips for Choosing the Best Color Scheme

If you live within a gated community, or any development controlled by a homeowners’ association, generally there are requirements on acceptable color schemes on the outside of the homes.  Some color siding choices might not work with the uniformity of the neighborhood and other homes.  Most associations will require you to have your color choices submitted for approval; others have a list of allowable options.  (By the way, this holds true with painting as well, and probably roofing.)

Considering the color schemes in the immediate area around your home can help you determine how to fit within them, but you might want to choose something a little different.  For example, if most of the homes on your block are tan or neutral, why not choose an earth tone that complements yet stands out, like a deep brown or sage green?   If you’re in a heavily wooded area, color combos that reflect the foliage can also be very attractive.

But as you’re choosing, always keep your own color tastes in mind when you’re siding your home. Choose colors that work with what you like, and stayaway from ones you don’t.  After all, it is YOUR home, and you’ll be looking at the color for many years.  You want it to be a color scheme that’s pleasing to you.
