Customize Minneapolis Replacement Windows or Entry Doors with ProVia Decorative Glass

You’ve probably noticed if you’ve checked out our website that we work with several manufacturers for replacement windows as well as exterior doors.  One reason is that having multiple sources means our customers have more options to customize their doors or windows.   People tell us it’s exciting to be able to choose things that reflect their own personal taste and allow them to get one-of-a-kind items.  (It’s particularly appealing to homeowners in neighborhoods where the developers used one or two styles of homes and a limited color palette.  If that’s you, we have some great suggestions for how you can make your home stand out from those around it.)

Why You Should Choose Decorative Glass for Doors & Windows

Decorative glass is referred to by a number of terms.  You may see such names as art glass, specialty glass, obscuring glass, etc.  The terms are for the most part interchangeable, although obscuring glass is not usually as decorative and serves mostly a privacy function.  But take a look at these different options from ProVia for both doors and windows.  (This is just a small sample of what’s available.)

All three would be considered specialty glass.  But the reading nook window and the door/sidelight combo have obscuring glass features that make them great solutions for areas that you want privacy but don’t want to block out the light coming in.  This is particularly important in entryways that would otherwise be dark. The living room windows on the right are purely decorative.  We love how they add an interesting visual that eliminates the need for window coverings!

In the living room windows the owner chose a particular glass option that mimics stained glass. There are a number of ways this glass can be customized, and it’s available for windows as well as entry doors and sidelights, like the combination shown here at right.  Several color palettes are available.

The best part of this option?  The colors are hand applied!  Resin beading is affixed to the glass using a computer template on a CNC machine.  Then a real live artisan fills in the colors.  The resulting variation in color and striations looks very much like authentic stained glass.

In addition to decorative glass options like the ones shown above, privacy glass is also available.  Privacy glass (or obscuring glass) useful to install in doors and windows where letting in light without sacrificing privacy is important.  Like bathrooms.  Or partial areas of doors and windows.  Shown below is just one example: a pebble glass option from ProVia.

Specialty glass options are also available from another one of our door and window partners, Marvin We’ll cover some of their choices in an upcoming blog post.  If you’re interested in seeing for yourself some of the beautiful glass you can choose from, reach out to us to schedule a private appointment at our Savage showroom.  We’d love to show you around!
