Energy-Efficient Windows – How Do They Work?

Energy-Efficient-Window-600x442If you are thinking about this question, it probably means that there is more behind it then just plain curiosity.

Whether or not a window is extremely energy efficient should be one of your top considerations when you’re selecting new windows.

But have you wondered exactly what energy efficient windows do?

Some of our customers really want to know how energy efficient windows work in order to keep heat in during those very cold winter months, as well as keeping that outside heat out during those hot summer months. The real question behind it is, “How WELL do these windows actually work?”

So, before we give some of the details about how energy-efficient windows function; let’s start by answering the real questions at hand.

Will I notice a big difference after I have installed new windows?

There are no two homes that are the same, obviously, so the actual results will vary depending on what your actual situation is. But to quote a customer,

“It is a very hot day here, and the temperature outside is probably hitting the 90 degree mark. Within 45 minutes of the new window installation, we noticed the temperature difference.”

It was the first time that the upstairs of her home felt cool and comfortable in years. If she could feel the difference, you know she saw the difference on her energy bills.

How soon will I notice a difference?

Here again we are not able to promise an allotted amount of time that you will notice a difference. We will only be able to promise you that you will get an utmost superior window product as well as the best replacement window installation service in the Minneapolis area. The energy efficiency that having new windows installed can and will bring to your home is something that some of our customers have experienced before our installation team even leaves the home.  But depending on the size of your home, the outside temperature, and other factors, your experience might be a little different.  But we can assure you that it won’t be long before you can tell.

So how does a window actually work to reduce my energy use?

If you were to look throughout your home wearing a pair of night vision goggles that show infrared heat sources, you would discover that the most heat is located around your windows. This is not due to your windows being hot; it is due to the fact that this is where the most heat transfer is occurring.  Energy audits routinely show that the largest amount of heat or cooling loss in a home is around windows and doors.

Here at Window Outfitters, the energy efficient windows we offer resist this heat transfer occurrences in many ways. Within the double as well as the triple pane windows we install there is either trapped air or gas that is between the panes that ultimately slows the transfer of heat. There are other options you can choose to make your windows even better at keeping your indoor temps indoors and keeping the outdoor air where it belongs – outdoors.

When you are ready to replace your windows with new ones that can help you cut your utility bills, give Window Outfitters a call. Our professional as well as experienced staff can help find the perfect energy efficient window solution for your situation.  (Oh, and we install energy-efficient doors as well.)  For a free consultation, give us a call today.  We are a licensed MN home remodeling contractor serving the entire Twin Cities metropolitan area.
