Enjoy Traditional Farmhouse Style with Modern Energy Efficiency from Marvin

One of the hottest trends in home design in the past few years has been the resurgence of traditional styles such as the farmhouse look. Whether it’s a longing to return to a simpler area or simply an appreciation for this type of architecture, homeowners both in the city and out in the country are considering this look (or at least parts of it) when remodeling their homes.

The Basics of the Farmhouse Style

You’ve probably heard the term, but do you know just what the farmhouse looks consists of?  Here are some of the major elements:

  • Neutral colors (contrasting black and white is the most popular combination; cream and beige tones as well)
  • Natural materials such as wood (often reclaimed wood) as well as steel, brick, and wicker
  • Natural decor – plants are required!
  • Exposed wood – open beam ceilings
  • Open areas, with lots of light (larger windows are great for bringing in sunshine!)

The farmhouse look is traditional, but modern farmhouse styling has a fresh take.  You might find repurposed vintage furniture and decor, but with a very modern purpose.  Hence energy-efficient exterior doors and replacement windows fit right in with this trend.

Marvin windows and doors offer all kinds of options that are perfect for the farmhouse look with modern convenience and energy savings.  (Click here for one of their recent projects.)  The photo below shows the kitchen in this home.

The windows over the kitchen sink are Marvin’s glider windows from their Ultimate® line,  The doors and windows in this line are are custom made and consist of genuine wood interior frames with maintenance-free exterior durable extruded aluminum cladding.  Not having to do exterior window maintenance such as re-painting or re-staining is definitely a modern convenience!

Marvin has lots of energy-efficient replacement windows and exterior doors that fit well with the farmhouse style, including these shown above.  To find out more about Marvin doors and windows, contact us today.
