How to Have Your Minneapolis Home Shown in the Best Light with the Right Windows

W01jan08e514hen it comes to the charm of a home, having the right window placement is key. You want to ensure that not only does your home look good but it has character and that it is enjoyable to live in.  But as you sit in your home do you realize  just how much you could benefit from putting in brand-new, more energy-efficient windows?  Windows do a lot for providing natural light and ventilation.  When it comes to the enhancing the lighting of your home with the right windows, consider some of these ideas.

  • Often the master suite in the home is designed for privacy and comfort, and it might be the case for the master bathroom as well. If privacy is of concern in your bedroom, consider installing windows higher up, such as above eye level.  These don’t need drapes or blinds, and you’ll get light and privacy at the same time.
  • In your master bath, you might replace the outer wall that is nearest to the tub with floor-to-ceiling windows for a better view and more open lighting within the bathroom if your outside wall fronts on a secluded spot.  If not, a glass block window wall can provide light and privacy at the same time.
  • Think outside the regular box when it comes to the shape of your windows. You can choose from many custom or unusual shapes to put in a different space where the one regular square or rectangle window might not fit well.  Custom shaped windows allow you to add light to an area where a traditional window won’t work, such as over a stairway or a door.
  • When it comes to the kitchen space, a lot of people are looking into getting more storage, and often the temptation is to add wall-to-wall cabinets. However, sacrificing your windows might not the best way to go about it. You can actually combine the window with the storage space that you’d like to have. You just have to install shorter cabinets with counter space below the windows – the best of both worlds in your kitchen.
  • If you have vaulted ceilings, you can brighten the room up by installing windows right at the top of them for a nice sun-lit feeling. You can let in all of the natural light that you need without having to do much to get it.
  • Maximize the sunlight coming in through your sliding patio door by adding half-round or other shaped windows above the door.
  • If you have a beautiful scenery somewhere, do not hide it – let it inside. You can add a large picture window overlooking the scenery to make sure that nothing is missed.   Or take it a step further and have a bay or bow window installed.  You’ll get more light in the same area since the window opening sticks out from the side of the house and gets light from three directions.
