How to Spot Problem Areas on Your Siding

Now that spring is here in Minneapolis, many homeowners are getting outdoors and taking care of the exteriors of their homes.  For some that means siding repair.  There are many problems that can arise with your siding, and these problems will need to be addressed sooner rather than later to ensure that nothing causes a problem that is too big for your budget to handle.  These problems could be because of the weather, poor installation, or a number of other factors. By being able to spot these problems and address them, you’re extending the life of your home much longer. Know when to replace your siding using these tips.

Problems you should watch out for on your siding include:

  • Buckling or warping of the siding – When this occurs, it can cause the siding to shift, and bend. This allows spaces to open up and allow moisture, pests and other problems into the wood of your house. By having these pieces of siding repaired and replaced, this problem can be eliminated.
  • Issues with moisture seeping underneath – This can be a problem that causes mold and mildew within the inside of the siding and the wall. When moisture seeps into the inside of the house, this can cause a wide range of problems, especially for pests that like the moisture.
  • Mold on the siding – Algae or mold sitting on the outside of the siding can become a problem. Not washing this down and letting it grow means it can get underneath the siding and cause problems in the future.
  • Loud noises – If there is loud noise on the outside of the home that you can hear from the inside, this could be due to the siding is not properly installed into place.  If high winds or heavy rains are causing your siding to shift, that’s a clear indication of an installation or siding damage problem.

When the time comes to having your siding inspected, speak with someone that knows what they are doing. With the help of a professional, you can check out those problem areas and have them repaired. Our MN siding crews are able to spot the problems, fix the problems and even replace the siding on the home if needed.
