How to Turn Your Minneapolis Home Into a Mini Resort with the Right Windows and Doors

Maybe it’s tight finances, a lack of time, or travel restrictions, but one of the hottest trends in home design right now is the resort look.   We’re not talking about putting in a pool with a swim-up bar and a cabana, but having the right replacement windows and exterior doors can go a long way toward creating that look in your home.  Here are a few tips:

  • Go bold with color – look for tropical-inspired hues like deep greens and florals.  One of our favorite door and window suppliers, ProVia, has a wide range of color choices that will work.  Fresh nature-inspired colors can create that resort feeling.  Here’s just one:  Hibiscus.  And since these colors are available in their vinyl windows, entry doors, patio doors, and storm doors, you can create a coordinated color palette on your entire exterior.
  • Fill your home – indoors and out – with plants, especially tropical ones with lush foliage. Surrounding yourself with green plants can refresh your soul and body.  Studies have shown that having an abundance of plants indoors can produce cleaner air.  No space for plants?  Consider replacing one of your larger windows with a greenhouse or garden window to make a mini-greenhouse.
  • Finding ways to bring the outside indoors is another aspect of the tropical design trend, and a garden window is an easy way to do just that.  But there are other ways as well.   Larger sliding patio doors can blur the lines between your home’s exterior and your outdoor living space, especially if you’ve got a deck or patio.  Weather Shield’s Next Gen sliding patio door line – named one of the new architectural products in 2019 – can do just that.  With this innovative door, you can create an entire wall of glass that opens up to your outdoor space. And if you surround the door opening with large-leaved tropical plants, you’ll give your home even more of a resort feel.  (Don’t worry if those plants aren’t Minnesota hardy; plan on bringing them indoors when the weather turns cold.  Then you can enjoy the tropical feel inside all winter!

Other things you can do include bringing in as much natural light as possible, and we’ve got great fiberglass windows from Marvin that can do just that, because of their thinner frames.  Consider storm or exterior doors with full glass.  We’ve got other ideas as well, and we’d love to talk to you about replacement window and exterior door solutions to create the resort feel right here in Minneapolis in your own home.  We are THE replacement window and door company for this area, and we offer great energy-efficient products to homeowners in the greater Twin Cities, including communities like Stillwater, White Bear Lake, and Apple Valley.  Just let us know when you’d like to schedule a consultation.
