How You Can Cut Costs with Window Treatments

04apr23e5a14Have you looked at your utility bills recently?  Cutting your energy costs is something that so many people like to do whether it is for heating or cooling costs. Time to find out just what you need to do in order to save some money on your heating and cooling bills to get the most out of what you spend each and every month. There are actually ways that you can make your home a bit more comfortable and affordable just by putting the right window treatments throughout.

Window Awnings:  These are great to have in the summer since they can shade those areas around the windows where sunlight might seep in and warm up the room. These are also affordable and can look nice when they are put on correctly.

Blinds:  Blinds are a simple fix that can be used in the summer and they can cut heating down by 45% (which is a huge jump) when they are fully closed and blocking out the sun. They are affordable and come in many different styles and materials.

Shades:  These are the most cost effective for both the winter and the summer. You can find them in many different sizes, colors and styles to match the home. Find shades that have black on one side that can attract the sun in the winter and then flip the shade over to keep the sun away during the summer.

Draperies:  These are more decorative than the other options since they come in pretty colors and styles. When you put these up and keep them closed, they are able to reduce the heat gain in the home since it blocks out the sun. When you choose draperies that have plastic backing on them or are insulated, you’re able to reduce the heat gain by 33%.  They also keep out the cold in winter,.

Window Tinting Films:  These are fairly easy to install in your windows and they block out the sun and are able to keep the heat in during the colder seasons, which can be a life saver.
