Insulated Vinyl Siding Helps Keep Out Heat as Well as Cold

Here in the Minneapolis area, siding needs to protect homes from a wide range of temps and humidity, but homeowners prefer a siding product that doesn’t require a lot of upkeep.

We’ve got the answer for that.

Insulated vinyl siding brings together the greatest benefits of both worlds. As many Minnesota homeowners already know, vinyl siding has always been the top choice when it comes to siding that is  low maintenance,  cost-effective, enduring, and attractive. Now, it has joined forces with insulation, making it energy-efficient as well.  This feature makes it popular for homeowners around the Twin Cities.

For many Americans, energy efficiency has become an enormous concern today. New technology advances in today’s household appliances have turned these former energy guzzlers into more efficient green machines.  Now while they clean or work at their top levels, they use a fraction of the energy they once used.

Windows have also come a long way as well in terms of energy savings.  Most homeowners like to have a lot of windows so their homes are full of natural light, but windows are literally holes in the wall.  As such,  your heat and air conditioning escape through them. With today’s windows being constructed with two or three panes of glass with the addition of gas between the panes, they now cut way down on air leakage and energy waste.

The walls of your home are a barrier between the outside world and you. At one time they were expected to protect the home’s occupants from outlaws and the creatures of the night; in today’s world you expect your walls to protect you and your family from the weather elements, be it the hot summer sun or the cold winter winds. And they do, but by how much?

Houses that are newly built are constructed with multiple thick layers of insulation as well as often being wrapped in a moisture and water barrier called Tyvek. Tyvek is like a tight fitting sheet of plastic wrap installed around your home. Although these two products are good protectors, why should you stop there? By equipping your home with even more insulation material it becomes more energy efficient, which in turn means more money in your wallet.

Other sidings such as metal, fiber cement, stucco, wood, and brick are great home sidings, yet none of these are known to be effective insulators. Even vinyl siding on its own doesn’t provide much in terms of insulating value.  Over the years the vinyl siding industry has made many improvements, with many companies now offering vinyl siding that has insulation.  This particular improvement in vinyl siding doubles the R value from 0.6 to approximately 1.8 and in some cases even higher, this depends on the brand as well as the insulation that is chosen.

At Window Outfitters we recommend CraneBoard Solid Core™ vinyl siding to homeowners who want great looks, low maintenance, and energy efficiency in an economical siding package.  Crane siding is manufactured with a solid insulating core behind the vinyl top layer, making it an excellent insulator.

When you want to keep the heat inside your home instead of on the outside, give us a call here at Window Outfitters.  We’d be happy to talk with you more about this exceptional vinyl siding product.
