Interviewer: In our last segment we talked about ProVia’s steel doors, and it might be good for our readers to get your thoughts on ProVia’s fiberglass exterior doors, since you recommend them as well. Can you talk about what makes these entry doors special?
Bob: One thing is the warranty. The doors in the ProVia Signet fiberglass line all carry a lifetime warranty on the door and a 10-year warranty on the stain on the fiberglass. It’s a very well finished door. The quality is what we like as well as the options they provide.
The other thing that makes them unique is that ProVia handles everything involved with the manufacture of these doors instead of buying components from other companies, like many exterior door manufacturers do. When you buy a door from ProVia, you get the whole process.
The door is hung in its own frame and it comes with its own hardware, and you have all kinds of selections to choose from. They manufacture their own glass and they put a lifetime warranty on the glass. The warranty on these products is outstanding and the quality and craftsmanship are beyond compare. We like it for those very reasons.
Interviewer: What makes a ProVia fiberglass door strong? What makes it tough? With the steel doors, you talked about the thickness of the material. Is it the same with the fiberglass?
Bob: On the fiberglass doors, the way you get strength is in the frame you put underneath the fiberglass. ProVia uses 4-1/2” finger-jointed four-ply hardwood styles. Those are the vertical pieces. And they have high-performance composite sill plates. They’re synthetic so they aren’t going to rot out on you. They use a 2-1/2″ finger-jointed hardwood hinge. The straight stiles and rails that they dovetail and glue to use for the frame of the door prevent it from warping. And then they foam fill the center of the door after the fiberglass is applied to the exterior, and then the fiberglass is stained.
Interviewer: So the foam is insulation?
Bob: Right. The foam is filled by a computer driven process. Everything is handled by computer – the door goes down the line and they’ve got it down to a science. They use scientifically formulated compounds in their fiberglass. And it’s all proprietary – they own the entire process. That means they are in control from start to finish.
