Keeping Your Vinyl Siding in the Best Shape Possible

If you want vinyl siding that is going to last for some time, then you have to make sure to use precautions when it comes to being outside. Not only are certain things going to break down the siding on your home, but damages that could be prevented might also cause further issues. Make sure that you keep these in mind this summer season and keep your vinyl in the best shape possible.

Heat Is a Hazard for Vinyl Siding

While this should go without saying, a lot of people forget that vinyl can easily melt with extreme temperatures. This does not mean the heat from the sun shining down, but rather the grill that you choose to use right by the side of the house. Keep any and all fire item such as grills, fire pits, and blow torches away from your siding.

Foreign Objects Flying Can Damage Vinyl Siding

While you don’t have control over everything that goes blowing through the air, is important to keep these objects away from the siding as much as possible. Keep your vinyl siding in the best shape possible with a little caution. Try not to run anything over with the lawnmower – walk your lawn before you cut and pick up sticks and stones first.  And keep balls away from the home – find places where your kids can play without bouncing their toys against the house.  And if you’re playing fetch with your pup, direct your throw away from the house.

Siding Threats from Wind and Storms

Obviously storm damage is out of your control as far as the siding is concerned.  Of course, hail and strong winds can be hard on a home.   But quality vinyl siding that’s been properly installed will hold up better.  It is good to note that if you do not have your vinyl siding installed by a professional siding contractor, this may cause problems with both your homeowner’s insurance and your siding warranty when you go to put in a claim for storm damage.

To keep your siding looking great, don’t forget to do that quick cleanup of the outside of your home. Vinyl siding maintenance is easy but shouldn’t be forgotten! Here are other tips for vinyl siding maintenance that might be needed on your home.
