Minnesota Siding Looks: Staggered Shingles Can Accent Your Home’s Exterior

Adding a beautiful look to the outside of your home is important. One way to do this is with the right siding. The siding on a home affects both its appearance and how well it is protected. Siding provides coverage for both what’s on the outside of your home (its structure) and what’s inside (its contents and its residents). But just because it is functional doesn’t mean it can’t be attractive.

Here at Window Outfitters, we know that it is important to have the right style siding for your home. We’ve helped many homeowners around the Twin Cities choose siding that works well for their home, their budget, and their tastes. Often that siding is fiber cement from The James Hardie Company.  Hardie offers a variety of siding styles, including shingles.  These shingles are available in panels of both straight edge and staggered. Staggered shingles are great to put on a home – they provide a very distinctive look, as you can see from the photo below (courtesy of James Hardie®).

Staggered Shingles Provide a Fresh Appeal: Sometimes you want a different look for your home. Changing the style of your siding can really do that. When you add new siding, especially the shingles like this that overlap, you can find that you get the best look in the neighborhood. It can give a country appearance if you need it, or a quaint one, depending on the overlapping that you choose.

Two Popular Color Choices for Hardie Staggered Shingle Siding

Sail Cloth Shingles – The Perfect Color for Any Home: HardieShingle siding is great for just about any style home.  It’s been installed on everything from traditional beach cottage homes to Tudor style mansions. The neutral Sail Cloth color shingles go well with many types of homes, such as bungalows. It can add a whimsical appearance to any home, especially if you’re looking for a lighter color.

Create Waves with Blue Shingles: Want a bit of a beach house look for your home?  Select staggered shingles in an ocean tint like Boothbay Blue, shown at right in this closeup. Staggered shingles are often associated with Cape Code homes, so when you select this color you can create the feel of waves. If you’d like something darker, they have a deeper shade called Evening Blue, which can also create an ocean wave feel.

Hardie staggered shingle siding is available in a beautiful palette of other colors as well. All of the James Hardie siding options are tested and true to their nature.
