What Is a Window’s Function?
Find out how the window you’re going to buy functions before purchasing it. Don’t just select a window from a brochure or online picture – you want to know if it is able to open easily as well as how it opens. And consider where those windows are going. For example, a double-hung window over the kitchen sink might be a struggle to open – an easily-cranked casement window might be a better option. Also evaluate the wall size where the window is going – does the style work well in a small space, or would it work better in a larger one. And if you’re adding or replacing a window in a basement, consider whether it qualifies as egress windows. And don’t just go by the salesperson’s statement – check out whether YOU could easily get through the window – you need to know if you can exit out of it, if needed.
Do Those New Windows Require Lots of Maintenance?
If you value your spare time, you might not want windows that require a lot of maintenance; go with something that takes as little upkeep as possible. Obviously all windows require some sort of cleaning, but you want to choose a window that does not have to be repainted or restained frequently. Making sure the windows can be cleaned from the inside is also important, so look for models that tilt in for easy access indoors.
