New Minneapolis Replacement Windows and Doors Could Bring in More Daylight for Those Working or Schooling at Home

As we navigate adapting to life during a pandemic, more and more people are working from home, and a lot of children are doing distance learning.  If that’s you, the natural daylight in your home during working and schooling hours is very important.  Sunlight can help our moods, and it can help us be more productive.  Plus being able to take advantage of natural light could mean you can avoid turning on lights and adding even more to your utility bills.  Did you know that there are replacement windows that might be able to bring in more light than the windows you have now?

  • Some window styles allow more light in than others.  For example, bay and bow window configurations stick out from the wall, and thereby allow light in on three sides instead of just one. And replacing double-hung windows with casements or sliders gives you full glass instead of 2 panes broken up in the middle by framing material.
  • Some companies offer window frames that are thinner than others, meaning you get more visible light in the same size window opening.  For example, fiberglass window frames create strength with thinner frames than comparable wood or vinyl windows.  We are proud to install energy-efficient fiberglass windows from Marvin.
  • Replacing your solid entry doors with models that contain partial glass will allow more light inside.  You can increase that light even more by adding sidelights and/or transom windows
  • One other thing to keep in mind as far as windows and natural light is that it’s important for your replacement windows to have coatings that minimize UV infiltration.  You want that natural sunlight in your home, but keeping out the UV rays that can cause premature breakdown of your wood and fabric components is also important.
  • If you know your home could use a little ‘lightening up’, give us a call today for a free in-home consultation.  We can take a look at your current window situation and suggest some replacement window solutions that can help you bring in more sunlight and save on your energy costs in the process.
