Problems Found When Inspecting Windows – Part 2

(Editor’s note:  This is the second in a two-part series.  If you haven’t yet read Part 1, click here.)

There are additional signs and warnings that you should look for when it comes to having your windows inspected. You want to ensure that you know what a warning sign is when it comes to having your windows inspected. We’ve reviewed some of them in Part 1, but now we’ll complete the list of some of the other things that might be found during a typical window inspection.

Other Problems Found During a Window Inspection

  • Windows Do Not Open Easily – When the windows are not opening easily (or not at all), then you might find yourself having some difficulties. Not only should the windows glide open, but they should be fully operational. When they are not, this is an indication that there is a problem.
  • Evidence of Water in the Home Around the Window – When there is water pooling up around the bottom of the window, or there is moisture found below the window, then this is an issue. The water shows that the window is not able to do the job it was meant to do, and so it needs to be replaced.
  • Missing Handles – Missing handles are an inconvenience, because it means the window is harder to open.  Handles should be replaced right away, because if you’re opening the window by pushing on the frame, you might be sliding it incorrectly.
  • Lack of Tempered Glass – There are marks on the sides of the windows to show whether or not the glass is tempered.  Tempered glass is stronger, which makes it safer.  If this mark is missing, it could mean that new windows are in your future.
  • Broken Locks – When the windows do not properly lock, air and/or water could be leaking it.  It also means your windows aren’t providing security for your home.  An unlocked window could be a gateway for a unwelcome visitor like a burglar.

Of course, sometimes you can tell your windows have problems without even needing a formal window inspection.  Check out this earlier post to find out whether to repair or replace the windows in your home.
