There’s something about a great front door that can change the whole feel of a house. You notice it from the street, you
walk past it every day, and it’s one of the first things guests see when they arrive.
That’s what caught our attention about this ProVia Signet® Cherry Inscribed fiberglass entry door. It’s different without trying too hard to be different.
The door is finished in a warm Cider stain, with a direct-set sidelite and a long black contemporary door pull. But the detail that really makes it interesting is the engraved pattern across the face of the door. It gives an otherwise clean, modern entryway a little personality.
Most of us are familiar with traditional entry doors featuring raised panels, glass inserts or other decorative elements. ProVia’s Inscribed fiberglass doors take a different approach.
The designs are precision-engraved into the surface of the door, creating lines and geometric patterns that become part of the door itself. Some are fairly subtle, while others make a stronger architectural statement.
It’s an interesting option if you like a more contemporary look but still want the warmth and character of a wood-grain appearance.

So even though we’re talking about one particular style of door, there are quite a few ways to make it fit the architecture and personality of a home.
One thing we see throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul and the Twin Cities is just how different our homes can be. We have beautiful older homes, mid-century houses, traditional suburban homes and plenty of newer contemporary designs.
That’s why we like having choices like this.
You don’t necessarily need a completely modern house to use a contemporary front door. Sometimes introducing one cleaner, more architectural element to an older home creates a really nice contrast.
And take another look at the door pictured here. The Cider finish brings warmth, while the black frame and long black pull give it a more contemporary edge. The sidelite adds natural light without taking attention away from the door itself.
It all works together without feeling overdone.
Hardware can make a surprisingly big difference.
A traditional handle would give this door one personality. The long black pull gives it another. It’s a small design decision that helps create the tall, clean appearance you see in the photo.
Door height can have the same effect. ProVia also offers 8-foot Inscribed entry doors, which can create a particularly dramatic entrance when the proportions of the home allow for it.
That doesn’t mean bigger is always better. It’s really about choosing a door that looks like it belongs with the house.
Of course, appearance is only part of the conversation when replacing an exterior door in Minnesota.
