As we check out design and remodeling blogs, these days it seems like there are two rooms that are getting major focus: kitchens and bathrooms. And for both of these areas, the right style windows can make a major difference. But from what we’ve seen, the topic doesn’t get a lot of attention in the makeover articles. Yet the right windows can make or break a great remodel, so we’d like to weigh in with some tips. (In this post we’re focusing on bathrooms; we’ll address kitchen windows in a future article.)

One thing to keep in mind is that bathrooms can have high humidity, and easy-to-operate windows can reduce humidity much faster than an exhaust fan. Now, we realize that it’s probably not something you would do in the winter, but the rest of the year you’ll probably appreciate this.
Any operable window will let you do this, but in our opinion sliding windows do it best. Why? With double-hung windows you are able to open only half the glass area. Casements will give you more ventilation, but that crank might be difficult to turn, especially if you’re a little damp from your bath or shower. With a sliding window (also referred to by some window manufacturers as a gliding window), you just need to give it a push and it’s open. Same thing in reverse to close it.
Depending on your own personal needs and tastes (especially privacy), you may find other window styles might work better for you.
