Earth Day is coming up – this Thursday, April 22nd, 2021. Did you know this is the 51st anniversary of this now-annual event? The original Earth Day was held in 1970, founded by Sen. Gaylord Nelson, a fierce advocate of protecting the U.S. environment. Now, at that time there was no EPA, no regulatory agencies in place to protect air, water, and other natural resources. Sen. Nelson created Earth Day to bring the idea of environmental protection into the national conversation. Today, it’s celebrated worldwide, and as a Savage company focusing on the installation of energy-efficient replacement windows and exterior doors, we’re proud to be a part of this movement.
In addition to cutting down on energy use, many of the products we install from manufacturers like Marvin and ProVia are themselves manufactured from what are c considered ‘green’ materials, making them even more eco-friendly. Both these companies offer doors and windows made from fiberglass. Fiberglass is a building material known for what is referred to as ‘low embodied energy,’ meaning the energy expended in the entire manufacturing process through delivery is notably low. That means fiberglass windows and doors can be considered environmentally friendly in three categories: reduction of energy when installed, sustainable materials used in manufacturing of the product, and actual energy consumption by the manufacturer.
