Selecting the Hardware and Accessories for Your New Minnesota Replacement Windows

You may have noticed if you check out the manufacturers we represent that there are quite a few options to choose from when you need new windows.  Every replacement window company is different; because of this, the options you choose for your new windows may make or break how they will look in your home. Most window manufacturers offer a variety of hardware styles and/or materials as well as inserts like grilles, art glass, and more.

Some homeowners may want them to blend right in with the look of the home while others might want them to stand out. Here are some tips and tricks and a little bit of info to help you make a decision that suits your windows, your home and you.

Tips for Customizing Your New Replacement Windows

The options you select when you order your new replacement windows are what allow you to truly customize them.  Here are some things to consider when you’re deciding on what you want.

Window Hardware: The hardware on a window is something that makes it stand out and can make it look different from the countless other windows. Not only that, but it is also the point between the person operating the window and the window itself.  Some hardware is easier to operate than others, so consider that as well.

And certain types of hardware can deter break-ins from  those outside of the window. Home security is a major issue these days, and you’ll find that certain hardware options will make your home more secure than others.

And then there’s your personal taste to consider.  For that old-world feeling, we find so many of our customers here in the Minneapolis area  choose the classic shiny brass appeal, while those with more modern homes may choose a silver plating to go with. Chrome is a contemporary style while nickel brings back the past. Oil-rubbed bronze, matte black, almond (sometimes called champagne) and gloss white are available from some window manufactures as well.  As you explore the possibilities, you will find there are many finishes to choose from, and the type of home and your own tastes may help you determine which you should go with.

Window Grille Patterns:  You can change the appearance of the windows by choosing different grilles that break up the window into different sections. Architecturally, this is referred to as ‘divided light.’ This gives the window a different appeal then if you were to add just one large window to the area. In the past, smaller windows would have to be used but now that larger windows can be made, it is much easier to give the appearance of smaller windows in a larger one.

Grilles are available through some companies as permanent, as they are manufactured as a part of the window. Other companies offer them as removable inserts, and still others have them installed between the glass panes so you can avoid tedious dusting and cleaning.

The hardware and other options you select for your new replacement windows will make a difference in the way the window looks and feels on the inside and outside of your home. We can help you choose something that works with the theme or style of the home, your own personal taste, and your budget.
