Spring House Maintenance Checklist for Minneapolis Homeowners

Finally, the warmer weather is rolling in here in the Minneapolis area! That means that you can have more sunshine and fresh air.  But spring also means home maintenance.   Whether inside or outside, everyone needs to do a bit of maintenance and spring cleaning. (By the way, the fall is another great time to do the same type of maintenance tasks as well.)

So where do you start?  You probably have a number of things on your to-do list you’re aware of, but sometimes the important ones get overlooked.  Make sure to check these home maintenance items this season.

Do Roof Maintenance

Check for damage on the roof first and foremost. You want to make sure that the roof is in the best shape. This is one of the most important parts of the home. You need to make sure that there are no leaks, you are not missing any shingles, and that the gutters are in the right place.

Do an inspection from the ground up. Some of our clients indicate they use a drone camera for this task, which is great if you’ve got access to one.  If you are not comfortable doing a roof inspection yourself, call a professional.

Seal Driveways

The driveways and other paths around the home need to be sealed. The spring and fall months are the best time to do this. It’s a good idea to get this out of the way before the heavy spring rains start.

Give Your Siding a Look Over

Now is the time to repair the exterior of your home.  Any issues with the siding should be fixed when they are noticed. You don’t want to let any moisture or air leaks due to damaged siding.

Check Your Windows and Exterior Doors for Air Leaks

This is an important task to get out of the way before you start using your A/C unit.  Leaky, drafty windows or exterior doors can result in both discomfort indoors as well as higher than necessary utility bills.  Not sure how to check?  Let us know – we’ve got great tips.  And if you’re questioning the current condition of your windows and doors, we’d be happy to set up an appointment to come out and evaluate things for you, free of charge, no obligation.
