The Perfect Element of Style: Choose Bay or Bow Windows

Choosing windows that are going to make your home stand out can be done with ease. However, choosing between bay and bow windows is something that can prove to be a bit difficult. Depending on your wants and needs, you might want to go with one or the other.

The main difference is that bow windows have a curved shape, while bay windows are more angular.

Find out more regarding both types of windows, and which might be the best fit for the home that you own.

These Windows Get Your Home Noticed

Whether you choose bay or bow windows, both provide you with a way to get noticed in the neighborhood, because they are a step above regular windows. Not only is this going to give the appearance of your home a boost, but it is also something that is going to improve the overall value of your home.

Depending on the time your home was built, they can drastically change the appearance of the home. Anything newer might have something large in the window department, but those older homes might have outdated, smaller windows.

When you choose to place a bay or bow window in your home where a previous large window (such as a picture window) once was,  this would be the easiest option, since there is no wall demo needed. However, when replacing a small window with a bay or bow window, you will need to knock down parts of the wall, which can add to the cost.

Which Window Style Should You Should Choose?

You have to ask yourself which would be the best option to go with. Bay windows are a few smaller windows that are placed together in angles to create one larger window. This is a simpler installation and requires less demolition. Bow windows are larger and more complex. They usually tend to cost 10 to 15 percent more than bay windows for this reason. However, they can still provide that beautiful appearance you’re looking for.

Don’t Forget to Consider the Roof

The type of roof that is going over the window can also make or break how the window looks on your home. When you choose something such as shingles, it is a more normal appearance that doesn’t make a big impact. However, going with copper or another stylistic covering for the roofing above the window truly makes the window stand out.
