Tips for Finding a Trustworthy Minnesota Exterior Home Remodeling Contractor

Perhaps your holiday dreams are more about doing something to the exterior your home rather than a white Christmas. Winter here in the Twin Cities means spending time indoors more, and for many homeowners that means curling up with home improvement ideas and dreaming about what to do with the outside of their homes when the weather warms up.  (Just a note here – for most projects that we handle, you don’t have to wait until spring, because we work all winter!)

Having any sort of work done to your home is something you should’t leave up to just anyone. You have to choose a contractor that actually knows what they are doing, has the experience required for the type of project, and is not going to mislead you about anything related to your proposed project.

But often this can be easier said than done. Stories abound of unscrupulous or untrustworthy home remodeling companies. (If you’ve watched any of those court TV shows, you know what we’re talking about.) Your project can quickly go downhill if you are not working with the right contractor for the job. You might be excited to start, but taking some time to look into who you are hiring is going to go a long way toward making sure you’re hiring the right company for the job.

  1. Always read the reviews on the contractor.. Others’ opinions, though they are just their personal experience, really do matter. You want to work with someone who is able to provide the best possible service. Their experience might not be yours, but if you are warned ahead of time, it might save you time and money. Check out reviews on a variety of platforms.
  2. Do the proper vetting before hiring them. This means checking into everything available.. You want to know how many projects they’ve done of the kind you’re planning, the types of projects, if they have work samples and references, and do they have insurance and the proper licenses. (You can verity these items through the state, because all building contractors in Minnesota must be licensed and insured.) All of this is important to know. Obtaining permits are also a big must. A contractor who expects the homeowner to pull the permit should be crossed off your list.
  3. Do not go with the lowest bid. The rule of thumb is to get multiple estimates, and then set aside the lowest and the highest.  Just because they are affordable and save you some cash does not mean they are good. You get what you pay for is often a statement that is true in this case, unfortunately. Pay for quality, but also don’t overpay.

Doing your research to find someone who you can trust to work with is going to help you get that project done to your satisfaction. The investigation you do before you get started will pay off in the long run.

If you are a home or business owner in the Minneapolis area, we’d like a chance to talk with you about your project.  Contact us for exterior home improvement help. Our reviews and testimonials speak for themselves, but we are open to answering any questions you might have and providing the proof of our work if needed. Customer satisfaction is the most important thing we install.
