Top Questions to Ask When Choosing Twin Cities Fiberglass or Vinyl Replacement Windows

With the nice spring weather we’ve been having recently, we’ve been hearing from homeowners around the Minneapolis metro who have realized it’s time to replace their windows.  Our top recommendations?  Energy-efficient fiberglass or vinyl windows.  Yes, there are other options – including genuine wood,

When it comes to choosing fiberglass or vinyl windows, you probably have a lot of questions. You might not know which to go with when you are thinking about which might be the better performer in your home. When this is something to think about, always make sure to consider these questions before making your decision.

Which window performs better?  This is not an easy question to answer because there are so many variations of each type of window, the frame, the glass you can get with it and so on. The higher the number on certain ratings that the windows have, the better they are going to be.  It also depends on your home and where those windows are going. In some cases, we may recommend a combination of them when we’re replacing all the windows in a home.

What is the cost difference between the two? This is probably the most asked question; we find many homeowners base their decision on what type of replacement window to choose depending on the price. Fiberglass windows will always cost more than vinyl windows. But you have to factor in the extras that come with the fiberglass windows. Do those outweigh the vinyl windows to justify the cost? For example, fiberglass windows may cost more up front to install, but they generally will last longer because they’re more durable.

Which can look more like wood in the window? If you like the appearance of real wood, then you’d want to choose a window frame material that can most closely mimic this look. Fiberglass windows look the most like real wood, but they do not provide the benefits of fusion welded windows, which is something that a vinyl window could provide.  But we’ve got a third option to offer homeowners. Marvin offers a line of fiberglass windows that have real wood interiors, so you get the best in an energy-efficient, maintenance free exterior  with the beauty of genuine wood on the inside.  We also install Aspire windows from Weather Shield that have the wood interiors but with vinyl exteriors.

Of course, we can help you make the right choice for replacement windows for your home. We install quality replacement windows from companies like Comfort Line and Marvin. And we have windows on display in our showroom so you can see for yourself the difference and find out which you feel the most comfortable using in your home.
