Top Remodelings Trends for 2024: Invest in the Home You Own with Replacement Windows

The current skyrocketing housing prices have homeowners around the Minneapolis area opting to remodel their existing homes rather than looking to buy new.  Even those who purchased ‘starter homes’ are re-thinking their long-term plans and are instead looking at changes they can make in their homes to allow them to remain in them indefinitely, even as they age.  The term ‘forever home’ no longer applies to just adopting pets; it’s become a common term in the real estate industry as many people are focusing on adapting their existing homes to changes in their needs.

Home Remodeling Changes Can Take Several Forms

  • Replacing worn-out components such as appliances and structural items like windows and doors.  If you’ve owned your home for awhile – especially if it wasn’t new when you bought it, there’s a good chance your existing windows and entry doors aren’t cutting it in terms of energy efficiency.
  • Remodeling to meet the changing needs of your family and/or your lifestyle.  The home that was perfect for a young family with small children likely could use some alterations for an aging couple whose children now have kids of their own.  Those small kids’ bedrooms could be combined for a larger master suite or converted into a home office.
  • Making your home more energy efficient. While conventional wisdom says add more insulation, it might surprise you that dollar for dollar you’ll recognize more energy savings with replacement windows than by adding insulation, although doing both could maximize things.
  • Home renovations that facilitate aging in place.  Think in terms of what things you’d need to do to your home to make it livable and workable for seniors with mobility issues.  That could mean wider doorways to accommodate a wheel chair or a walker, or it could take the form of windows that are easier to open and close.  Often when we work with older homeowners, we recommend sliding windows or casements.  They are definitely an improvement over the traditional double-hung windows in terms of ease of operation.  Also, windows that are virtually maintenance-free and can be cleaned safely from the inside of your home are highly recommended.  Shown here at right is a kitchen window combo using the Elevate® Casement windows from Marvin.  These windows have a fiberglass exterior (no maintenance!) and a wood interior.
  • Updating the overall look of your home.  A house purchased in the mid-70s likely looks dated now, and some remodeling to give it a fresh, new look could help you fall in love with it all over again.

And this is a great time to plan a replacement window project!  We current have an online discount special ($300 per window opening, 4 or more windows) good for projects booked with us by April 1st.  Save on installation cost, save on energy, save on maintenance!  AND it gets better:  current federal tax credits that cover replacing your windows with ones that meet the EnergyStar criteria can qualify you for federal tax credits.  (Consult your tax professional.)

Why not schedule a consultation with us today?  We offer free, no-obligation appointments either in your home or at our showroom in Savage MN.  We are THE replacement window company for the Minneapolis metro area, and we want to help you love your home for the long haul!
