While double-hung windows are still the most popular window style in the U.S., the casement window is coming close to taking over that spot. Casement windows have been in use in Europe for a long time, and in fact existed prior to the modern sash window, first seen as a single hung window. Today’s homeowners are discovering the many benefits of casement windows, including ease of operation. Plus they are more energy efficient than a double hung window.

The design of a standard casement window allows air flow to be directed into the home, but it can also be problematic when landscaping is close to the window or a sidewalk is right below. With an in-swing casement, both sides of the window can be cleaned from inside your home. That makes window cleaning a breeze – no ladder, and no needing to go outside when it’s rainy or cold!
And like the standard American-style casement, these windows provide excellent energy efficiency as well as security. The locking mechanisms of casement windows are usually superior to double-hung window hardware.
