What Are the Current Trends in Minneapolis Replacement Windows?

Time to replace your windows?  You’ve got lots of options, and plenty to choose from.  But above all else, when you’re ‘window shopping,’ always look for the energy efficiency rating.  (It will be on a white or yellow sticker; your best choices will be those labeled ‘NFRC’, or the National Fenestration Rating Council.)  That sticker will give you energy performance information that you can use to compare windows.

But then what?  We find that many Minneapolis homeowners we work with want to know what the most up-to-date or trending features are in windows.  Here are some window and related home design trends for 2023:

  • Specialty shape windows, especially those with arched tops, like those shown here from Weather Shield .  (Some manufacturers or decorators refer to these as ‘Gothic windows.’  Shapes like this tend to draw the eye.  Note how the arch top here fits right in with the vaulted ceiling.  The design elements of the grids in the central window are complemented by the grids in the rectangular windows on either side.
  • Bay and bow windows.  Generally these are installed in the center of a wall, and they create a focal point for a room.  Windows like these are great for areas that have fantastic views.  One advantage of these window styles is that because the window structure protrudes outside, you get light from three sides (sometimes four, as occasionally you’ll find a variant such as a garden window that has glass overhead as well).
  • Oversize windows and/or those with large glass areas.  This trend isn’t limited to picture windows.  Picture windows are inoperable and don’t allow for ventilation.  That’s why they are often flanked by windows that open, such as double hungs or casements.  Big windows work well in rooms where you want to maximize natural light.  Some of the window manufacturers we work with offer floor-to-ceiling windows.  Or you might opt for glass doors instead!

If you’ve got old windows that are wasting energy – or you simply feel like your home needs a bit of a refresher – why not schedule an appointment at our Savage window and door showroom?  We’ve got lots of energy-efficient windows on display that reflect these trends.  Or if you’re in the market for something more traditional, we can show you windows like that as well!
