What Are the Most Important Things to Consider When Buying Minneapolis Replacement Windows?

If you’re considering replacing your current windows with more energy-efficient ones, there are a lot of things to keep in mind and evaluate.  Not only do you need to determine which licensed Minnesota window contractor you’re going to work with, you’ll be faced with choices in window brands, styles, frame materials, and other factors.  But before you get to these, there are some important things to take into account.  Answering these questions at the start will guide you through the process.

Why am I considering replacing my windows?  This is probably the most important thing to get clear on.  Whatever windows you choose should fit with your purpose.  For example, if you want new windows to help cut down on your heating and cooling bill, then windows that will perform well in that category should be your focus.  On the other hand, if you want to update the look of your home, then window style might be more important.

What’s my budget?  Knowing what you want to spend on your replacement window project is crucial.  Without a clear idea of your budget and how you intend to pay for your new windows, you’ll either waste a lot of time looking at windows you can’t afford or you’ll spend more than you intended to.

What is my home’s architectural style? This is also an important factor.   Traditional style windows with grids (divided light) may look out of place on a modern style home.  Similarly, there are only certain window styles that would fit with a Victorian type home as you might find in historic areas around Minneapolis and St. Paul.  And that brings up another point.  If your home is in an historic district, you’ll need to find out what regulations may apply.  For the most part, only certain types of replacement windows can be installed in homes in these areas.  We specialize in windows for historic homes, and we can guide you through the process.

Once you’ve answered these three basic questions, you’re ready to start the process of choosing your new windows!  Well, that is after you’ve chosen the contractor you want to work with to install them.  Because no matter how great those windows are you pick out, you’ll want to have them installed by an experienced replacement window contractor like Window Outfitters, Inc.  Reach out to us – we’d love to help you move on to the next step.  We can either schedule a private appointment in our Savage window and door showroom, or we can meet with you in your home.
