What Front Door Colors Are Best for Minneapolis Homes?

Recently we shared an article about why a colored front door might be a good idea. As you drive around the Minneapolis area, you will note that many homes have vibrant entry doors.   And perhaps you’re thinking it might be something you’d like.  Now, before you rush off to Menards to buy paint or put in an order for a new entry door, we have some color suggestions.  There are colors that can increase the value of your home, and there are other colors that are not good choices.  In this article we’ll handle the top five entry door colors.  A future blog post will discuss which colors to avoid.

The Most Popular Front Door Colors

A number of our entry door suppliers offer colored doors.  ProVia, for example, has more than 20 different options, and you can special order in any Sherwin Williams color if you’d like one that matches your trim or another element on your home’s exterior.  Even faux wood grain fiberglass doors have color glaze options if something subtle is more your style.  And if you look around, it seems like your color choices are almost endless.

But what are the most popular colors for front doors?

  • Traditional neutrals like black, white, and grey are still going strong.
  • It’s no surprise that colors are trendy, and they can shift from one year to the next.  For example, a vibrant purple was the #1 color choice in 2018, This year?  Bright olive tones; purple has slipped to #2.  Shown are right are two colors in the olive shade family, available from ProVia.  The lighter one on the left is Avocado, and on the right is Moss.  (Note the window frame matches…nice touch!)
  • Beachy shades like icy blue/green take the #3 spot.  Door manufacturers have different names for these colors; shown here is a stunning entry door and sidelight combo with art deco glass in Robin’s egg, courtesy of ProVia.
  • Rounding out the top five trending front door colors for 2023 are red shades in the paprika spice tones as well as pastels with just a hint of color.

What color front door would be best for you?  That depends on a lot of factors, including the existing siding and trim colors as well as your landscaping.  We’d be happy to make a private showing appointment for you at our replacement window and exterior door showroom in Savage and let you check out all the beautiful colors we install.  And we can aid you in selecting a front door color that will be perfect for you an your home!
