What Replacement Window Styles Look Best for Contemporary Homes?

Real estate professionals will tell you that you should spend your home improvement dollars on the exterior of your home first, before moving inside.  Why?  Because prospective buyers often drive by a property and make a decision on whether to check it out or not based on that indefinable concept, ‘curb appeal.’  Basically, what that means is does your home catch someone’s eye and make them want to take a second look?  One thing that factors into curb appeal is whether a home is in line with current trends in home exteriors.  And this year one of the top five is the modern or contemporary look.  Did you know that the windows contribute in large part to the overall feel of a home?  If you’re going for contemporary, then of course you’ll want replacement windows that are line with that.  And some styles fit better than others.

For a Modern or Contemporary Home, Choose Casement Windows

Double hung windows remain the traditional favorite, but we’re finding that as homeowners in the Minneapolis St. Paul metro area are selecting replacement windows to bring their homes ore up-to-date that casement windows are quickly becoming the favorite.  Not only are they extremely energy-efficient, casement windows are tops in terms of modern or contemporary appeal.  They are much easier to open than double-hung windows, since a crank is all it takes rather than having to lift a window sash.  And as homeowners get older, they appreciate the convenience and ease of operation.

Casement windows also have a more sleek look, since they have no dividing sash in the middle.  All you get is a solid pane of glass.  And since the modern or contemporary look is often minimal, casements fit right in with that.  (Glider or sliding windows provide a similar look, but they must be used in a two-window configuration, and that’s not always feasible.) Casement windows also pair beautifully with a picture window to give you lots of view but also ventilation.  They are also easy to combine in multiples and work well with specialty shape windows, such as the half-round shown on this home here, one of our projects.

If your home is looking dated but you’re not ready for a total makeover of its exterior, perhaps replacing your old windows with modern-looking casement replacement windows is just what it needs.  Why not contact us today for a free in-home consultation?  We are THE replacement window company for the Minneapolis area, and we are a licensed Minnesota home remodeling company.
