What to Do When Water Runs Behind Your Gutters

After last week’s storms we’ve gotten lots of calls from people having issues with their rain gutters.  If that’s something you’re experiencing, this post is for you.

rain-432770_640Many ranch styled homes, or other homes that do not have much of a pitch of the roof, generally have issues with water falling off their roof. In addition to this, not having properly working gutters around your home can cause further issues for the home itself and the structural foundation that is holding it up.

If you find that there are issues with water running behind your gutters, then perhaps it is time to consider how you might be able to fix this.

Gutter Repair Is Not a DIY Project

Never use caulk to try to fix the issues that you might be having. This can cause the problem to become much worse. Your gutters are generally not a DIY project. They have to be maintained and repaired or replaced, as necessary, by a professional.

A Minnesota gutter installation professional will come in and do an assessment to ensure that they note all of the problem areas and how they’re going to fix them.

The gutters may need to be resecured against the side of the home. If this is the case, then screws are going to be used. The joints throughout the gutter system will also be checked and maintained. They will run water through them to test how they send it down and out to the ground.

Downspouts might need to be repaired or replaced throughout the gutter system. However, keep in mind that if the system is old and it is not performing the best way possible, then you will find yourself having a hard time keeping the water away from the home. You may need to have the gutter system around your home replaced.

It’s important to keep your gutters in the best working condition possible.  Here are some pointers to take care and maintain the gutters for the life of your home.
