What to Look for in Energy-Efficient Windows for Your Mpls Home

If you’re shopping for replacement windows for your home in the Minneapolis area, there are many reasons why you might want to go with energy-efficient windows, the first being that you can save money, the second is that you can do some good for the environment.  However, there are other reasons why you should choose these windows.

Also, many window manufacturers advertise their products as energy-efficient, but how do you know which ones are telling you the truth? Certain things should be considered when selecting your windows to know if they’re truly energy efficient.

The Material

Some windows are more energy-efficient than others.  Picture windows are a type of window that are more energy efficient than others just like windows made of fiberglass compared to those made from vinyl or aluminum.

The Glass Type

One of the biggest and most energy efficient type of glass to get is Zo-e-Shield, offered by WeatherShield. This revolutionary glass is not only is energy-efficient, but it can save the interior of your home from UV damage as well. There are many Low E coatings available for glass, and air or gas filling also adds more efficiency.  Also, as a side note you should find windows with more panes than one.   Double pane windows are good, but triple-pane are the best for for northern exposures in cold climates such as Minneapolis has.

Insulating Factors

The frames on the windows should be insulated. You want to stay away from any of the hollow frames out there since they are slow with heat transfers which then decreases the energy efficiency of the window.

Installation of the Windows

This is one of the most important aspects of windows.  Companies that do not install windows correctly or do not have experience with doing so, can cause leaks to form around the window, leaving them less energy-efficient. These gaps then have to be filled in order to block air and temperature leaks from happening on both the inside and outside of the home.

No matter kind of windows what you’re in the market for, at Window Outfitters we can help you choose the right ones.  We’ll help you select the most energy-efficient windows for your home and your budget.  Call us to schedule a consultation at our showroom to view the many energy-efficient window lines we offer, including WeatherShield windows with Zo-E Shield.
