When is the Best Time for That Twin Cities Home Improvement Project?

When you’re thinking about home improvement projects, there are a lot of thoughts that can come to mind. Usually, the first is when the best time to do the project is. You want to make sure that the company can come out and provide the work that is needed, but that the weather doesn’t get in the way. The truth is, each season has its pros and cons, and a good time for one homeowner may not be the best for another.  And it might surprise you that occasionally winter might be the best time to get some exterior remodeling done!  (We know, weather here in the Twin Cities has been kind of nasty lately, but the truth is, our crews know how to bundle up against cold and snow and are on the job all year round, even now.)

Spring

Many homeowners think that spring is the best time to have projects done on their homes. Even though it can be quite rainy, for many types of projects this is true.  With the warmer temperatures, it might just be a great time to call up that company to have them come out and provide the help you need both inside and outside the home.  But keep in mind that most homeowners have the same idea, so your contractor’s schedule might be fairly full and you might have to wait a bit and be flexible on times.

One advantage to spring is that it isn’t too hot or too cold, so having doors and windows open or openings exposed usually isn’t an issue with inside comfort as far as temperature goes.   On the other hand, with the rainy weather, your lawn might take a beating if you’re having an exterior project like siding replacement done.

Summer

Sure, summers here in the Minneapolis area can be hot, which could make it a great time for home improvements such as energy-efficient replacement windows that can help save on your cooling costs.  Or you might be considering remodeling such as adding a deck to give you more space to entertain or relax in your own yard.  But again, like spring, summer is a very popular time and you might run into scheduling issues with the contractor you’ve chosen.

Fall

The fall month is the month where many exterior home improvement projects take place. Homeowners are thinking about getting their houses ready for another Minnesota winter and want to get those projects that they’ve been putting off taken care of before the snow flies.  But like spring, the mild weather makes fall a great time in terms of having your doors and window openings exposed. Temperatures aren’t so much of an issue as they would be in summer or winter.  Plus getting exterior things done in the fall can reassure you that you’ve done your utmost to button up your home for winter.

 Winter

Most homeowners tend to think that winter is the season for interior remodeling. But the truth is, many exterior products – including siding and replacement windows and doors – can be installed in the winter.  For some types of projects, winter is ideal.  And you most likely won’t have a problem getting on a contractor’s schedule because most people assume this isn’t a good time to get work done.  But we’ve got some discounts for windows, doors and siding if you schedule before the end of February, so saving money makes this a good season!  (Click here for details/coupons.)

Regardless of what time of the year it is, make sure you’re choosing the best home remodeling projects to do regardless of when you have the work done.  More important than when you have remodeling done is what you’re doing.  Some types of home improvement pay off; others can be a waste of time.  Give us a call today to find out how we can help you with those exterior home improvement projects you want to have done.  We work in all four seasons!
