Why an EnergyStar Rating Matters for Minnesota Replacement Windows and Exterior Doors

Perhaps you’ve noticed that we often mention that the replacement windows and doors we install are EnergyStar rated.  Or maybe you read the recent announcement that ProVia (one of our favorite exterior door and replacement window partners) recently received the 2021 EnergyStar Partner of the Year award, as it has year after year.  Maybe you’ve wondered what this means and why it should matter to you if you’re seeking to replace your windows or your exterior doors.

What Does an EnergyStar Certification Mean?

Understanding what it means for a door or window to carry the EnergyStar certification mark (shown here) will likely tell you why this rating should matter to you when you’re shopping for door and window products (or any other energy-consuming or conserving item, for that matter).  You may see the EnergyStar logo in various forms, some of which are educational or promotional, but if a label for a product contains this specific logo, it means it has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as meeting EnergyStar requirements.  Products approved for EnergyStar certification deliver exceptionally high energy efficiency at or above levels that are set by the EPA.  (You can learn more about this by visiting the EPA EnergyStar website.)

How do products earn this designation?  It’s a three-step process involving manufacturers submitting their products for testing by an EPA approved lab. Those lab results are reviewed by the EPA, and then a second set of tests is performed using off-the-shelf products to ensure a random item falls into the same testing results range as the submitted sample.

If conserving and reducing the amount of energy you use in your home matters, we highly recommend that you look for this blue icon on any door or window product you’re evaluating.  We are proud to carry doors and replacement windows from multiple manufacturers whose products do.  It’s your guarantee you’re getting some of the best energy efficiency on the market today.

Interested in converting your home to a more eco-friendly one by reducing your energy consumption?  Replacing your doors and windows with EnergyStar rated ones will go a long way towards that goal.  Why not set up an appointment with one of our door and window technicians to find out more?
