Why Energy-Efficient Replacement Windows Matter

With the recent Earth Day celebration, people were once again reminded of the importance of saving energy and helping to protect the environment.  But as a Minneapolis exterior home improvement company whose specialty is installation of energy-efficient replacement windows and exterior doors, those things matter to us every day.  And for quite a few reasons.  But as a homeowner you might be asking yourself if energy-efficient replacement windows are important enough to you personally.  Is it really worth the investment and the time?

Yes, Installing Energy-Efficient Replacement Windows Is Worth the Investment!

We make this statement with just a few ‘unless’ comments.  For example, if you have an older or historic home with gorgeous wood windows in great shape but your concern is wasting energy, we are likely to recommend you have good quality storm windows installed over them, such as the ones we offer from Mon-Ray.  Those wood windows are made of quality lumber that can’t be matched with today’s products.  Other reasons might be that your windows are meant to be energy-efficient but you might have some issues with them that need a bit of repair.  Either way, we’ll take a look at what you have and suggest solutions.  Our main goal isn’t to sell lots of windows but to help each home or business owner find the perfect window solution for them.

You might wonder also if you’ve got a relatively new home whether you ought to consider replacing the windows the builder installed.  For the most part our answer would be ‘Yes.’  Generally windows and doors are where the builders and developers save money.  They install off-the-rack standard windows that are more than likely not top quality.  (It’s the same with other building components like paint, flooring, etc.)  Those windows that came with your home when you bought it are likely not highly rated in terms of energy efficiency, although there are exceptions to this.

For example, depending on which source you find most credible, having your existing windows replaced with EnergyStar rated can cut your utility bills.  If you choose those such as the windows we install from ProVia, you might save $600 or more per year on your heating and cooling.  To put it in budget terms, that’s $50 a month!  The size of your home and the number of windows comes into play, so you may save even more.

Oh, and there are other reasons that make replacing your windows with more energy-efficient ones makes it worth the time and cost.  These include:

  • Increased resale value
  • More comfort in your home (less drafts)
  • Longer life for your heating and cooling units, because they will be running less

If you’ve got more questions about energy-efficient replacement windows, our window technicians and reps are here to answer those questions.  Why not set up a no-obligation consultation in your home to discuss your existing windows and what we might recommend.
