Why Should I Add Storm Doors to My Home?

We get this question a lot, especially from prospective customers who have already replaced their old entry doors with energy-efficient ones.  But even with those great new doors, you may find that adding a storm door can give you additional benefits you haven’t considered.   Here are just a few things that might convince you storm doors are the way to go.  After all, here in the Minneapolis area ‘storm’ is a word we hear often.

What Storm Doors Can Do For Your Home

The first thing to keep in mind is that real estate professionals, as well as remodeling industry publications, will tell you that a good entry door (especially when it’s the front door) can give you a return on investment that’s close to its cost.  No other remodeling project can do that.  You can expect about a 90% ROI (or more, depending on the type of door).  So once you’ve made that investment, it just makes sense to protect it.  A storm door will do just that.  One of the main things storm doors do is protect entry doors from both weather and intruder damage.

The next thing is additional comfort.  Much like putting on another layer of clothes when the weather turns cold, adding storm doors to your entry doors is an extra layer of insulation.  The air trapped between the two doors increases the energy efficiency of your entry doors.  And since energy experts will tell you that after window openings, door openings account for major heat loss in a home, adding something that makes those doors even more energy efficient sure makes sense.

And then there’s the security issue.  Most home break-ins are through the front door.  Secure storm doors like the ones we install from ProVia and Mon-Ray are deterrents to would-be burglars.  Another security feature is that it keeps your little ones and pets inside.

And finally there’s the issue of appearance.  Storm doors selected to coordinate or complement your entry doors add additional charm and beauty to your home.  Just look at the gorgeous storm door in this photo.  The door, sidelight, and storm door combination creates a stunning and inviting area.  And isn’t that what you want most of all?
