Why Should You Settle for Ordinary Siding When Your MN Home Can Have the Best?

When it comes to the siding options that are out there, you shouldn’t have any problem at all when it comes to which one to choose, right? Wrong.  There are so many choices out there in siding products, so which one works the best for you and your home?

We’d like you to take a look at fiber cement siding from the James Hardie Company, a worldwide leader in residential siding products.  Consider vinyl siding in comparison to fiber cement siding – which would be the best choice to go with?  Here are some important comparison points:

  • When exposed to any type of flame or high heat, vinyl siding will melt
  • It is hard to get a good color match on the siding that you have if repairs are needed; it fades tremendously over the years, and it’s hard to get a good color match if you need to replace a section
  • Vinyl can be easily damaged by weather conditions and warping
  • Premium vinyl siding is only 5/100” thick

Look at what James Hardie fiber cement siding provides you with to protect the outside of your home:

  • Approved for fire rated construction because it is noncombustible
  • The finish is baked on and comes from ColorPlus. It is brighter and has 30% more fade resistance than the competition
  • Is able to resist pests, warping, rotting, cracking, excessive winds and hail
  • It is 5x thicker than vinyl siding to provide an all over coverage and protective layer on your home

Here are some other things to keep in mind when you’re evaluating vinyl vs. fiber cement siding:

  • Vinyl siding is only a cover-up; it’s often installed right over the old siding. It provides a nice looking outer cover but doesn’t do much for what’s underneath.
  • It can catch on fire!  Exposure to fire can cause it to melt, or worse.
  • Vinyl is able to fade over time, so you have to keep this in mind when it comes to choosing a nice color – it won’t stay this color forever.
  • If you’re considering vinyl, check the warranty very carefully.  James Hardie siding has a 30-year limited, transferable warranty.

If you have questions about vinyl vs. fiber cement siding, we’d be happy to talk with you.  We install both siding products, but we definitely recommend Hardie fiber cement siding for homeowners looking for a long-term siding solution.
