Why Twin Cities Homeowners Will Love Casement Windows

We are all about casement windows here at Window Outfitters. We highly recommend them to homeowners here in the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro who are planning on replacing their windows this summer. Yes, double-hung windows still remain the most popular window style for homes. But the casement window is quickly moving up to the #1 spot.  We believe they have been underrated by many, We’d like to point out some of the reasons why we think you’ll want them in your home.

The Many Advantages of Casement Windows

There are so many reasons we recommend casement windows when we’re talking to homeowners about their replacement window projects.  We recognize that in some situations you want to stick with the window style you’ve got, however.  For example, if your home is in an historic district, you may be limited to the window styles you can choose. Or perhaps you want to retain the original architectural flavor of your home. We get that; we are specialists in windows and doors for older and historic homes.  But for most homes, there is no reason you can’t replace your existing window style with casement windows.  Here are some things to think about:

  • Other than the slider or glider window, the casement window is one of the easiest types to open.  This should be a major consideration if you’re remodeling your home with a view toward remaining in it as long as possible.  “Aging in place” remodeling is a major move right now, as homeowners are making changes to their homes that will make them more functional as they get older.  Part of that is replacing elements that require upkeep with low-maintenance or maintenance-free options.  But ease of use should be at the top of the list.  The crank mechanism of the hinged casement window makes it far easier to open than lifting a double-hung or single-hung window.  And for the same reason, we highly recommend casement windows over areas like kitchen sinks where you need to reach to access the window.
  • The casement window is the most energy efficient style of window, other than those that are fixed (don’t open).
  • Ease of cleaning puts them at the top of our list as well.
  • And then there is design flexibility.  They pair well with fixed windows such as picture windows to be able to provide air flow.  Casements can be installed to swing open either left or right. And recently Marvin introduced the innovative in-swing casement window, which is perfect for areas where landscaping, sidewalks, or other factors make an out-swing window impractical.  These in-swing casements are even easier to clean than the out-swing casements!

We could go on and on about why we love casements and why we think you will, too.  Why not check out our Casement Window Ideas board on Pinterest, and then if you see something you like, contact us for a free consultation!
