Advantages of Casement Windows

When you’re making improvements to your home, new window installation is often a priority. Because of the wide variety of models out there, it can be difficult choosing the right type for your home.  There are a number of common styles to select from.  One option to look at is the casement window. They offer a great view and are convenient use, but they work better in some situations than others.

Where Casement Windows Work
Some of the best places to put casement windows are in smaller rooms or in the kitchen.  Many smaller windows don’t open enough to cool a room down adequately. Since the entire window swings out, casements allow more room for breezes to come in. There are also very fine screens available to keep the bugs out while letting a beautiful view in.

If you have a double-hung window over your sink, you know how hard it is to open and close it. Leaning over the counter takes away leverage needed to easily lift the lower window.  Since casements are opened by operating a crank at the bottom of the window, they don’t require the angle that their double hung equivalents require.

Many of these windows are also available in models which unlatch from the hinges to allow for easy cleaning.

Where Not to Put Casement Windows
Although they’re great choices for some rooms, casements aren’t as good for others.

– Bathrooms:   Privacy is naturally an issue in bathrooms. Although these rooms tend to be small, casement windows don’t offer the same type of privacy that double hung windows do.

– Insufficient Outdoor Clearance:   Because these windows open outwards, they can be a hazard for people walking past them outside. If you have a deck or patio, it’s best to go for a different option for windows overlooking the area.

When considering your window choices, take a look at the rooms you need them in and then see if casement windows are right for you.  If you have questions about whether casement windows are the right choice for your home, Window Outfitters offers free consultations.  We also have appointments available by request at our showroom so that you can se these beautiful window solutions yourself.
