DIY Project How-To: Build a Window Valance Box with Molding

Now that it’s too cold to do much of anything outdoors in the way of home maintenance or home improvement, some DIY’ers may be suffering withdrawal.  If that’s you, here’s an inexpensive and easy project to turn simple molding into an elegant window box valance.  The step-by-step VIDEO and still photo instructions come with a list of what you’ll need as well as design ideas.  For not a lot of money or effort, you can add architectural interest to your windows.  This look is especially fitting for those with older or historic homes.  You can use molding that resembles the existing trim in the room for a custom window look that’s unique to your home.

One extra that a box valance provides is additional options for decorating.  As you now have a small ledge above the window, you’ve got a display area available.  If you want to carry the molding trim idea even further, there are links on this article for creating a custom look surrounding your entry door using molding.  If you combine the same style for your valance and door trim you’ll have a high-price look for a low-price budget.
