EnergyStar Labeling – Just What Does It Mean?

As science and the American population discovered the need to use less energy, the demand for more efficient appliances, windows and doors went up. In response to this, the US Department of Energy, or DOE, and Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA, established the EnergyStar logo to help consumers find those products.  You may have seen labels such as these on everything from hot water heaters to storm doors.

Saving Money and the Environment
Homeowners took full advantage of this new certification, and as a result, they saved $12 billion in energy costs in 2005. More importantly, the energy they saved is equal to that of 23 million cars.

Although most people think of this rating as being on things like kitchen appliances, it also applies to windows and doors. This only makes sense, because a home’s windows and doors are some of the most important factors in its insulation and energy efficiency levels.

Are There Local Companies Which Install Products With This Label?
Because of our concern for our customers and the planet we live on, Window Outfitters, Inc. proudly carries EnergyStar products. They meet the EPA and DOE’s stringent requirements for energy efficiency, and exceed them.

Window Outfitters, Inc is also tested certified by the AAMA, or American Architectural Manufacturers Association and the NFRC, or National Fenestration Rating Council. This means that in addition to saving customers money in energy costs, our windows will be installed properly and be easy to use by the homeowner.

We’re also certified as a Lead-Safe company by the EPA, as well, which is important for houses built prior to 1978 – current EPA regulations as well as Minnesota law require contractors to be lead-safe certified when doing many types of home improvements.

These additional certifications, in conjunction with use of the Energy Star label, ensure a final product which is installed properly, is both safe and easy to use, as well as being highly energy efficient. The end result is less money paid out to the energy companies, and more to spend on other things, while having a comfortable home to live and play in.
